The Tummy Tuck is the cosmetic surgery procedure to reduce excess skin and fat from the abdomen, tighten the muscles underneath, while at the same time flattening its appearance. This is one of the most popular operation of body contouring that can offer reliable and dramatic results.

TYPES OF TUMMY TUCK

Mini Tummy Tuck: For the stomach doesn't sag too much. This type is suitable for those whose skin is lax only below the tummy button, not the skin above. The stomach skin is simply pulled down to flatten the contour and the belly button is left in place.  

Full Tummy Tuck:  The surgeon makes an incision between hipbones, just above the pubic area and another one around the belly button but leaves it attached to the structure underneath. Once the skin is freed, then tightens the underlying muscle and trims excess skin away. He makes a whole for belly button, pulls it through and stitches back the wound site together.  In most of cases liposuction of the Tummy and Hips area is needed.

Extended Abdominoplasty/Belt Lipectomy: This requires the incision to be extended on to the hips and towards the back, which allows a greater amount of skin to be hoisted at one time. Muscle tightening is required in most cases.

OPERATION

The operation is carried out under general anaesthesia and takes about 1 to 2 hours depending on the type chosen.  The amount of time can vary according to whether or not you have liposuction and any other procedures.  

Drains will be attached at operation site and your abdomen will be swollen and sore for the first few days. There will be pain which can be controlled by pain killers. 

POST OPERATION

You will wear specially designed corset until the time suggested by your surgeon. 

Although you will feel flatter immediatly after the surgery, it can take up to 6 months for the swelling to go down and up to a year for the scars to mature. 

A comfortable support garment should be worn for six weeks and you should not return to full activity or fitness program during this period. You can do moderate exercise, walking or swimming easily after consulting your surgeon.

You must take time to rest after the surgery.  Most of our patients get back to work 2 weeks after the surgery.
