Blepharoplasty (Eyelid surgery) is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures in the world and preferred by both women and men. This is a procedure that reshapes your eyes by removing redundant skin, fat and/or tissue around them.
It is often performed on its own but can also be combined with other operations such as facelift or brow lift to improve overall appearance on the face; or can be combined with other plastic surgeries such as nose reshaping, breast enlargement and tummy tuck.
OPERATION
Upper eyelid surgery: The surgeon makes an incision along the natural crease of the eye and remove a thin section of muscle, redundant skin and any excess fatty tissue.
Lower eyelid surgery: Four diffrent techniques can be applied according to the patients' need.
1- SHIFTING OF THE FAT VESICULES UNDER THE FAT TISSUE(Subperiostal Fat Redistribution): Smoothens the transition of the lid to the cheek, and softens the bone contour and contributes to the cheek volume.
2- INTERVENTION INSIDE THE EYELID (Transconjuctival Approach): The surgeon makes the incision on the inside of the eyelid. Excess fat is removed or redistributed. It is suitable for younger patients where skin and underlying muscle are still quite elastic.
3- RESTORATION OF THE MEMBRANE INFRONT OF THE BULGING FAT(Orbital Septum Pilication): Herniated fat vesicules are located in their former positions. Applied to young patients having strong orbital septum.
4- FAT RESECTION: Applied usually over weight patients only. Otherwise, when fat is removed, the eyeball may slips back, a bowl shape forms around the eyes and older look appears on the face with less wrinkles.
Blepharoplasty operations are often performed under local anesthesia if not combined with other procedures,; otherwise general anesthesia will be used. The surgery for each eyelid takes 30-40 minutes.
POST OPERATION
The eyelid surgery is relatively pain-free. However, bruising and swelling can cause some discomfort in the early stages. You will need to take a week or two off work while the bruising subsides.
You will feel dryness and sensivity to daylight; which an eye drop/cream and sunglasses will help in the first days.
Althoug youn will see the result immediatly after the swelling subsides, the final result will be seen in three to six months, depending on individual patient.
